Many of us will have been on a fishing holiday in France and come back disappointed, disillusioned or just down right annoyed. Many of us will feel that we have been ripped off because the glossy advert portrayed one thing when reality portrayed the uncomfortable truth.
Although I had met Stefan on one previous occasion - in my office sorting out his bait requirements – I had that comfortable feeling that he was a man who does what he says he does and one that could be relied upon. We spoke a few times after this meeting and I was asked to shoot over to France for a week to see what Alpine Angling Tours was all about during one of these conversations. |

I work as an accountant for a renowned hotel in the French Alps and have been living there for the best part of a decade now. I’ve always been fishing, and tried to keep up with it as best as I could after moving to France. I was fishing trout day ticket waters until I visited a tackle shop one day where I saw this frame on the wall of a chap holding a stunning fifty pound plus common carp. I enquired about it and was told it was a local fishing guide with many English ties… |

I have been living in the French Alps for ten years now, running my own chalet in the resort of Serre-Chevalier. A keen angler since my childhood, I was eager to get fishing in this magnificent part of the world, but did not really know where to start. The local tackle shop directed me towards a fishing guide based locally and whom they knew spoke fluent English. Having recently got back into carping after a 20 year lay off, I was keen to bring myself up to speed with the latest carp fishing techniques and tackle. I read with interest a series of articles in the Anglers Mail on the subject of fishing in France with Coach Stefan Hanff. I was particularly keen to note that Stefan offered a complete service including the supply of all the latest tackle, rigs and bait!
I was lucky to secure a weeks guiding with Stefan late in August 2007 and was soon standing on an incredibly picturesque lakeside minding the latest set of Fox rods, reels and pod and in front of a superbly laid out bivvy. |

I have been fishing for carp since the late eighties, after having met English carpers on the banks of a water where I used to target zander. After having spent some time with them, I went out to buy my first carping kit and I’ve never looked back. I first met Stefan in 2004 as an opponent in a regional carp competition, and that year we battled it out for first place in most events. We got to talk and when Stef showed me his rig wallet, I could not believe how much of an edge his UK style was giving him. I decided to book a trip with him, wanting to catch up with bait presentation and fulfil my life time ambition to fish for carp in England. |
